  • SPERDVAC premieres an exclusive new set of over 130 recordings restored from original transcription disks – the NBC comedy-drama serial “Those Happy Gilmans,” which was broadcast nationally on the NBC Red Network from August 22, 1938 to May 19, 1939.

The show was structured around the lighthearted, down-to-earth daily life of the Gilman household. Unlike high-melodrama soap operas of the era, Those Happy Gilmans leaned heavily into warm family humor and relatable domestic situations. Contemporary promotional profiles described the show as focusing on “ordinary people doing ordinary things,” blending small family crises with humor and heart.

SPERDVAC President Corey Harker has painstakingly transferred the original disks for our members’ enjoyment. You’ll find them in the audio library or by looking at “LATEST AUDIO ADDITIONS”

  • New Radiogram is published; plus a new way to track audio updates

The July-August issue of SPERDVAC’s Radiogram newsletter is now available online here on the website, and on its way to members’ mailboxes. This issue contains 16 ad-free pages of stories about “Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar”; a profile of collecting legend John Tefeteller; interviews with Donnie Pitchford of the Lum & Abner Society and voice actor Tanja Milojevic; and more…

With the SPERDVAC audio library on the grow again these days, we’ve added a new page to the website onder Member Resources: “Latest Audio Additions.” It offers exactly that – a list of the most recent audio files added to online SPERDVAC’s in recent weeks, presented in reverse chronological order. Now you’ll won’t have to fear that you’ve missed any exciting new updates…and there are a lot – over 1200 recordings added in the last month alone.

  • “Classic Radio Network” Launched

Yesterday USA Red, SPERDVAC, REPS and the American Council of the Blind have united to run the Classic Radio Network. “We want to give the listeners something different to listen to. You hear a lot of similar content from other online radio stations,” said SPERDVAC President Corey Harker. “It gives us an opportunity to have enough programming to not bore the listener.”

Programming will be curated using content from the SPERDVAC and REPS libraries as well as long-time classic radio dealer Ted Davenport’s library – the most high quality files. “We expect to offer world premieres of shows that aren’t in circulation, including those from SPERDVAC’s acquisitions that we are even now cataloging and converting to digital format,” said Harker. “This is a joint venture and every group will be equally involved in bringing the united network to life. We’re excited about the potential for a new, stronger, more varied service for classic radio fans,” said Walden Hughes, president of REPS. “It’s very significant that we provide a means to bring back classic radio to the American Council of the Blind’s ACB3 network on Live365 after they needed to suspend it 18 months ago.”

The Stream is available through the “Listen Live” link at the top right of the SPERDVAC website.
